Carla Nicole De Petris
(April 2003 -- Sonoma, CA)
From where did your family emigrate and when? Who emigrated
(self, parents, grandparents) and what were their names?
I came only in 1956 in the USA because I married an American/Italian
born in (the) USA from a Piemontese family emigrated in 1922 from
Torino. The family name is De Petris. My family name is Capirone.
As Carla Nicole Capirone in De Petris I lived in Atherton for
10 years then when Wilmer Anthony De Petris specialized in Pathology
we moved in the town of Sonoma. ... I live in Sonoma since 1966.
What led them to their destination (relatives
already there, hopes of a job at a mill, mine, etc. Please explain)?
The De Petris family has a longer history in the USA. Mine, as
I said, is only from 1956. Unfortunately, they are all dead. (Except)
our son Walter GianCarlo ... lives in San Francisco.
Did you emigrate to another location before or after (Argentina,
France, England, etc.)?
I came directly, after marriage to Wilmer in the Peninsula.
Did your family maintain Piemontesi traditions -- language, culture,
history, cuisine, etc.?
We did maintain Piemontesi tradition.
Did your family return home to visit or to live after the initial
emigration? Did they maintain contact with family back home?
We maintain contact with family and friends at home.
Do you identify yourself more as American, Italian or Piemontese?
I identify myself both as an American and Piemontese.
Have you visited your family's town(s) in Piemonte? What was
your experience like?
When we revisited our city and brought my son and his children
we had a very emotional experience.
Have you studied your Piemontesi genealogy? Please
explain why.
I am interested in the Piemontese genealogy but I do not know
where to find record from here.
Do you belong to the Piemontesi nel Mondo, Famija
Piemonteisa or any other organization?
I personally was involved in revitalizing the Piemontesi nel Mondo
in San Francisco and for years I was in the Board of Directors
and had many projects for the association.
